My ceramic practice looks at how one can navigate the cultures and traditions that we inherit and how they fit into the every world that we inhabit. The began with an attempt to teach myself traditional Korean ceramic methods and forms. As I stumbled through lessons that are supposed to be passed down from one master to the next in an unbroken line, I found myself confronting issues related to my experiences as a member of a Korean diaspora. Learning societal norms felt like finally solving a riddle only to have the question change. Permanent structures that make up these norms feel mobile as I swing from east to west through my front door.
